Well, the year's turned and I'm mooching around in the office trying to reorganise/springclean and generally do nothing! It was a good year (2012) and you can read a review here... At the moment its snowing here in Bristol, so any excuse to discuss 'not snowing' weather would be gratefully received!15 7 12

Interior Photography
The weather has been particularly bead of late, so I haven’t been able to shoot a lot of outdoor stuff. So the garden photography has been in short supply. However, the interiors are still looking lovely, and the muted colours and tones that you get in this light are surprisingly nice. I’m not saying I prefer it (!) but there are advantages to the summer that isn’t a summer!
A Country Living wedding
Last week I was priveledged to be asked to do some photography at a wedding for Country Living… I am in no way a wedding photographer, and never will be, its a skill that is as specialised and tricky as any other speciality… but in this case, the brief was to photograph the decoration, atmosphere and mood of the wedding, rather than the ‘nuts and bolts’ of the affair… The bride and groom had chosen the beautiful ‘Trevoole Farm‘ in Cornwall, and Beth, the owner, and all her helpers had turned the place into a fairytale venue.. lanterns, vintage candelabras, garlands and rose arbours, it really was the perfect country wedding. Two days after the wedding, the marquee was transformed in to a sale room and all the cutlery, vases, candelabras and chairs were sold on for charity… a lovely was to start married life! thanks for letting me come along and do the photography!
Boskerris Hotel, Cornwall
Wow, what a busy couple of weeks… I have been whizzing around the country photographing hotels, gardens, interiors and furniture… Lovely Cornwall has featured heavily and I spent a dreamy couple of days down there, doing shoots at Boskerris Hotel and a beautiful house on the Lizard (surely one of the most lovely parts of Cornwall?). Boskerris is family owned by the Bassetts and its a simple, smart and friendly place with amazing views of Carbis Bay and St Ives. We shot their newly refurbished rooms, and tried to get some shots on the deck with the view (the weather intervened a little there!)… They were such a friendly and helpful family and you can see that they take great pride in their hotel… they’re obviously very popular, and I’d recommend a visit soon!
The Wellington Hotel, Boscastle, Cornwall
We spent a great day at The Wellington Hotel in Boscastle, Cornwall earlier this week, revamping the hotel’s photography for the new owners website. I’d been to Boscastle a couple of times before, but never really stayed long (It was a stop off on a walking weekend once and a ‘drive through’ on a family holiday), and this was a chance to get to know the place a bit better… The Wellington is set back from the road and is an impressive building with castellations, and the village is a lovely place, in the news a few years ago after terrible floods wreaked havoc in the middle of summer. The staff were very welcoming, chef Isaac Robb and his team were on hand to cook up some amazing food, and the sun shone… the brief was to do some interior photography in the new rooms, do some food photography, and some lifestyle photography. It’s a lovely old hotel, with some history (past guests have included royalty and celebrities such as King Edward VII, Sir Henry Irving, Guy Gibson and Thomas Hardy), its very warm and comfortable, and I’m sure the new owners ‘Cornish Coastal Hotels’ will have every success… thanks again for a good day…
Cornwall, beautiful Cornwall
Being an interiors and gardens photographer based in Bristol, means that I am asked to go to Cornwall a lot. Because its very close. Nothing is close to Cornwall, its a long long way down there… doesn’t stop me going though, because its the most amazing county of all when it comes to countryside, eccentricity, seaside and just ‘photogenic-ness’ (there you go, I made up a word especially for it)… I love it there, and this months ‘Country Living’ and ‘Homes and Gardens’ magazines have nice big features that I shot down there… so, thank you Cornwall for your photogenic-ness… and thanks to Beth and Travis at Trevoole Farm, and to Caerhays Castle for those fab camellias…
Keeping Warm
Hotel Owners!! ..It may be cold out there, but with the fires blazing inside and an atmospheric dusting of frost without there isn’t a better time to warm up your marketing with some winter Hotel Photography… I have just returned from Boringdon Hall Hotel, a Grade I listed Elizabethan manor house in South Devon where we shot some of the new rooms and the Great Hall.
The manor was first mentioned in the Domesday book and is a fascinating mix of period details and rather more modern comforts. The images we shot included interiors, food, exteriors and some cosy details, like the fireside below, photographed in the Great Hall…
Dahlias at Varfell Farm, Cornwall
I was down in Cornwall last year to shoot a house but had a spare day beforehand. I asked Varfell Farm (home to the National Dahlia Collection) if I could spend a couple of hours in the Dahlia fields… wow, they really are the king of late summer flowers…many thanks to Varfell!
Camellias
I have spent much of the last week shooting a series of pictures for one of the magazines about Camellias. These are beautiful (mostly) spring flowering shrubs that prefer acidic soil… they are found in many gardens, but are especially common in Cornwall where the conditions are ideal for them… some of the gardens I have been to are very old woodland gardens, very atmospheric and steeped in history. Many thanks to Trewithen, Caerhays and Heligan… it’s been a great experience…
