Well, the year's turned and I'm mooching around in the office trying to reorganise/springclean and generally do nothing! It was a good year (2012) and you can read a review here... At the moment its snowing here in Bristol, so any excuse to discuss 'not snowing' weather would be gratefully received!15 7 12

East Prawle Cricket Club
A perfect day for the ‘President’s Match’ at East Prawle; there was sun, there were fours galore and there was a barbeque… everything seems well with the world when watching village cricket from the boundary…
“Personally, I have always looked upon cricket as organised loafing”. (William Temple)
East Prawle Jubilee celebrations, 2012
Quintessential English scenes at the East Prawle Jubilee Fair on Monday – even the sun had his hat on. Old-fashioned swing boats, hit-the-rat, soak-the-rogue, mounds of gorgeous homemade cakes, a tombola and, one of the highlights, a very well attended dog show. See picture of Zippy (that’s the owner) below and his elderly alsatian who romped (limped) home with second prize in the veterans’ class.
Happy Easter, South Devon Country Lane
Lovely day here in East Prawle, this lovely little footpath is alive with Blackthorn and ‘Alexanders’ (one of the earliest umbellifers to flower)… and there’s a nicely positioned yacht in the background! have a good day…
Great Mattiscombe beach
Let’s hope that Johnny Depp’s current visits to Great Mattiscombe beach in Devon won’t spoil this gorgeous bit of sand at the end of the world. He’s there filming ‘Dark Shadows’ with Tim Burton at the moment, and the area is buzzing with paparazzi and film fans trying to spot the film star. (I actually got called by a news agency yesterday, asking me to go and do some paparzzi shots of him on the beach….) AS IF! anyway, its a lovely beach, very quiet and remote, and it’s great for a bit of late afternoon sun…
Seaside garden in Beesands
Just got back from shooting a lovely seaside garden in South Devon… Beesands is an interesting little village, great mix of ‘real’ people and tourists, a sprinkling of artists and a great ‘English’ cottage garden by the sea… you can see more here and call me if you would like to feature it!!
Pigs Nose East Prawle
Haven’t posted for a day or two because I have been lost in the wilds of Devon at my favourite pub… the best landlord/lady ever and the best cider (Thatchers)… what else can an overworked (ha!) photographer want? maybe free beer?…
antidote to grey
Its another grey day here in Bristol, so I decided to remind myself about how it can be in the early summer (I seem to do a lot of that at this time of year!)… here are four pictures, all from the same month in 2010 (May)… First is an allotment site in Bristol (Kennel Lodge Site)… early morning, sun just raking over the Ashton Court Estate… warm and windless…
Second is East Prawle, Devon, almost a Monet style pond(?) with Iris pseudacorus at the edge… Once spotted the local councillor of EP cleaning out the pond in thigh-high boots
the village pond… an increasingly rare site…
My ‘bleeding heart’ (common name for Dicentra spectabilis)… wow, flowers in early spring, at Middlecombe Nurseries…you can get it in white too, but this has to be the colour…
Finally, a beautiful scene in a secret little lane near East Prawle again… typical English early summer scene… late afternoon, I can smell the cow parsley…
The Wild Places (East Prawle)
“In a land as densely populated as Britain, openness can be hard to find. It is difficult to reach places where the horizon is experienced as a long unbroken line, or where the blue of distance becomes visible. Openness is rare, but it’s importance is proportionately great. Living constantly among streets and houses induces a sense of enclosure, of short range sight. The spaces of moors, seas and mountains counteract this…” Robert Macfarlane, The Wild Places

Gara Rock Beach, Devon
Easter images to remind us of the sun! It’s been so cold over here that it’s just nice to see the sun and sand again…
There is a new hotel at Gara Rock which has replaced the old, much loved one…. we used to love the hotel because we could stop there and refresh after the long walk up from one of the best beaches in Devon… not sure yet what the new place will look like, but you never know, they may need some hotel photography!
