Well, the year's turned and I'm mooching around in the office trying to reorganise/springclean and generally do nothing! It was a good year (2012) and you can read a review here... At the moment its snowing here in Bristol, so any excuse to discuss 'not snowing' weather would be gratefully received!15 7 12

Devon Life cover
Thanks Devon Life for a nice front cover, march 2013… lovely Magnolias, easy to shoot really… you just need blue sky and a great Magnolia in full bloom… the garden photographer’s season starts with a bang!
Spring is nearer….
Lovely little shoot at one of my favourite gardens, Bristol University Botanical Garden…. Prunus mume in full effect… at last! after weeks of cold, the air feels milder and there is some colour!
Snowdrops…
Snowdrops, a garden photographers favourite… we’ve spent the best part of two months couped up in an office, and now we can get up and out, and shoot some flowers… to me it signals the start of the ‘season’… here are a few from last year…
Overbecks Garden, National Trust, Devon
Its a beautiful time of year down at this garden on the south coast of Devon. I normally think of it as a late summer ‘spectacular’, but its good at any time. These were photographed early morning in April… a beautiful garden overlooking Salcombe estuary… all the ingredients to make for a good days garden photography!
Snowdrops are all the same
All snowdrops are the same. Aren’t they? Flower and garden photography makes you look closely at the details, and these lovely little spring flowers are distinctive in their details… they may look like ‘little white flowers’, but look closely and the differences are evident. I shot these pictures at East Lambrook Gardens (former home of margery Fish, now owned by Mike Werkmeister), last spring… and I’m already looking forward to February when these plants will break through the frosty ground and pressage the oncoming spring… how poetic I am feeling this morning…
Spring cherry trees
Recently travelled up to glorious Staffordshire (??) to shoot a piece for Homes and Gardens… a spring garden with some ‘lovely cherry trees’ they said… well they weren’t far wrong… beautiful light, great garden, nice cuppa tea from the gardener and a traffic free journey (5am helps)… turned out nice… see you all at Chelsea Flower Show? it’s coming…
Rosemoor in spring
Have just completed the spring part of my year long job for the R.H.S (Royal Horticultural Society) at Rosemoor Garden in North Devon. Spent another glorious day there on Monday… spring well and truly sprung, with more greenery than….well… something green… It’s such a beautifully kept garden, and I hope I’m managing to capture it for them. Here are some shuttlecock ferns near the stream…
Dittisham spring
Been weekending in Dittisham, shooting for the lovely ‘Fingals’ hotel... Spotted these spring flowers in the village…
