I recently ‘saved’ a Rolleiflex 3.5 from the loft of the house I live in. A friend from my village had given it to me some years ago and I confess that, until recently, I hadn’t really known what to do with this old box that you have to fill with film! it takes 120 film (tricky to find and develop these days), its a bit bulky and its all mechanical. However, on a trip ‘upstairs’ recently to find something else in the loft, I grabbed it and gave it a go. I fell in love with the idiosyncrasies, I dug out the old Paterson film tank and learned how to scan and process the black and white Kodak Tri-X films. It’s been a revelation and I love the way the images come across; atmospheric, warm and inviting. I’m not sure where to go with all this, but I did a print as a christmas present recently and the result was lovely. More to come, I’m sure… it’s really nice being enthused again.
