Spring time at Gravetye Manor

Morning all, just editing images from last (glorious!) spring, and really hoping we get another to equal it this year. Gravetye manages to look so natural, and with the sun illuminating the flowers like it does in these images, it has to be one of the loveliest of all gardens. William Robinson was, of course, a major figure in gardening history, and his main claim to fame are his ground breaking garden books, amongst them the truly sensational publication, The Wild Garden… A sensation, it turned upside down the conventions of Victorian garden-making, sweeping away formal ideas, and replacing it with a naturalistic approach, favouring native plants. William Robinson’s book was a precursor to the idea of ‘cottage gardening’ and put forward ideas that were radical, but now common-place. Gravetye is now tended by Tom Coward and team, and his work has bought Robinson back to the fore, modernising and sharpening the ideas and practice, for twenty first century gardening…

These images form part of a feature set that is available from my archive, over on my website, please do take a look and if you are interested, you can download low res images for layout, or high res by emailing me. Thanks for looking, and roll on spring!
